England internationals Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Haines (picture © Tom Ward) will meet head-to-head today in the 36-hole final of the Spanish Amateur Championship at La Canada.

The close pals won their quarter and semi-finals yesterday after Saturday’s play had been washed out by heavy rain.

Fleetwood accounted for Julien Brun of France 2 and 1 in his quarter final then romped to a 5 and 3 victory over Denmark’s Rasmus Lykke-Kjeldsen to book his final spot.

Haines edged home by one hole over Johann Lopez Lazaro of France to make the last four then put out the sole remaining Spaniard, Juan Francisco Sarasti 3 and 2 in his semi-final.

Fleetwood, from Lancashire, and Kent-based Haines were Walker Cup team-mates last August in America while they spent a month together in Australia a few weeks ago, Fleetwood losing in the final of the New South Wales Amateur.
